A home-ice opportunity eleven years in the making

Bringing championship hockey back to the Coast

Eleven years after hosting the 2016 U18 BC Hockey Championship, Sunshine Coast Minor Hockey Association is bringing championship hockey back to the Coast. The 2027 BC Hockey U15 Tier 3 Championship will welcome teams, coaches, officials and families from across British Columbia for several days of championship hockey.

Our U15A Blues have been strong contenders for a BC Hockey Championship spot in recent years. Hosting lets these young athletes compete at home, in front of the families, volunteers and businesses who have supported them along the way. It also gives younger players the chance to watch championship hockey in their own community, and imagine themselves on that ice one day.

Admission is free: BC Hockey doesn't allow a gate fee, and visiting teams pay no entry fee. That makes sponsors a big part of what pays for the championship.

“I saw how hosting the 2016 provincials brought our hockey families and the wider community together. Eleven years later, I'm excited to help welcome a provincial championship back to the Coast.”

    More than a hockey tournament

    Visitors spend locally

Visiting teams and families need accommodation, meals, shopping and local services throughout their stay. Between games, we'll point them to Sunshine Coast businesses.

    About 40 volunteers

Hockey families, local businesses and community partners working together to put on a championship the whole Coast can be proud of.

    Our championship venues

Gibsons Community Arena is the primary venue, with Sechelt Arena a possible second venue, subject to confirmed ice. BC Hockey confirms the number of teams in January, and the schedule is set by February 1.

      Help visiting families find you

We'll share a digital Welcome to the Sunshine Coast business directory with every participating team, so families can find places to eat, shop and explore between games.

Business sponsors can include a short description, their location and website, and an optional visitor offer (with conditions and an expiry date). Offering a discount is up to you.

      Leave a lasting hockey legacy

As part of the championship we plan to create a Hockey on the Sunshine Coast legacy display: local hockey history, past events and championships, and the people who built the sport on the Coast. Details to come.

We'll also invite interested local First Nations, artists and community groups to take part in the championship in respectful and meaningful ways.

      Donate goods or services

We welcome contributions that meet confirmed event needs:

      • Accommodation for visiting officials
      • Banquet or hospitality support
      • Meals, snacks and refreshments
      • Printing, signage and event supplies
      • Team welcome-package items
      • Products or gift cards for approved fundraising (no alcohol)
      • A locally made Fair Play award, presented to the most sportsmanlike team

Please get in touch first so we can confirm quantities, timing and fit. Recognition is agreed based on the contribution's value and use.

      What your support makes possible

      Where the money goes

Our preliminary championship budget is $50,000. Our goal is to raise $50,000 in sponsorships to cover championship hosting costs. Donated goods and services will help reduce expenses.

These are planning estimates and will be refined as BC Hockey confirms the championship format and host requirements. Sponsorships support the overall event budget unless a specific use is agreed.

      Ice rental and arena costs$15,000
Officials' travel, accommodation, meals and support$12,000
      Banquet, hospitality and ceremonies$10,000
Awards, signage, programs and event materials$5,000
      Contingency$5,000
      Merchandise and other event costs$3,000
      Total preliminary budget$50,000
